Educational actions to deal with student diversity in Dentistry in the context of COVID-19
Abstract
Background: proposing tasks and educational actions to deal with student diversity can contribute to the reorganization and the quality of the teaching-learning process in the major of dentistry, given the challenge that COVID-19 represents.Objective: to design a system of educational actions to deal with student diversity in the major of dentistry, in the context of the pandemic of COVID-19, at the University of Medical Sciences of Las Tunas.Methods: a development research, mainly qualitative, was carried out in the aforementioned institution, from March 18 to June 1, 2020. The research takes place in the teaching-learning process of dentistry in the scene of COVID-19, defining as the study field the student diversity. The research was carried out in three stages, dealing with reviewing the curriculum, documents and designing the actions.Results: a system of educational actions was designed to deal with student diversity in dentistry, in view of COVID-19. The system was structured by a general objective, 21 specific actions for teachers, based on the comprehensive bio-psychosocial and pedagogical diagnosis given to each student and the group, and 11 actions for students. They were all based on ten general characteristics.Conclusions: the proposed educational actions can favor the quality of the teaching-learning process in dentistry in the current context of COVID-19.
