Le « désenchantement du monde »
Abstract
In his Ancient Judaism (1917‑1918), Max Weber purpose is strictly related to his comparative religious sociology exposed in The Protestant Ethic and the Spirit of Capitalism. In this work Weber considered that a specific protestant trend, the puritanism, articulated in an original manner religious domain and economic domain, which played a major role in the birth of modern capitalism. According to Weber, the major contribution of Judaism to puritanism was the phenomenon of “disenchantment of the world”. The present article is devoted to analyze this weberian concept.
