The Rosas’ archivist: Pedro de Angelis and the creation of the Archivo Americano
Abstract
Pedro de Angelis was the editor responsible for the Archivo Americano y Espíritu de la Prensa del Mundo from 1843 to 1851. This paper analyses such a newspaper as a series of documents he assembled during Juan Manuel de Rosas' administration. De Angelis selected, collected, and published contemporary documents regarding the political scenario. By doing this, he created an archive to promote and preserve the present time while produced the Rosism memory as opposed to its contemporary enemies, such as the 1837 generation intellectuals.
