Le manuscrit autobiographique d’Hervé Burel : le peuple dit par lui-même ?
Abstract
Hervé Burel, a peasant from Plouider (Léon, Brittany), wrote his autobiography from 1905 onwards, in which he retraces his life, but also those of his ancestors over four generations, thus going back to the revolutionary period. The author's peasant social origin makes him a rare writer and the choice of autobiography allows him to express his popular condition in its dimension of oppression by the nobility and the clergy. His writing and speaking out is therefore a strong act of emancipation. It is also for the reader a means of direct access to the people themselves.
