In the present paper it is to characterize the assessment under the competency-based approach, to realize it was carried out a review of some texts, where they were finding the features that this model leads to its application in the classroom. It also seeks to mention those involved in it and what are its implications. A broad view is offered from several points of view: one is the position taken by those who produce the ideas from the government or official view through secretarial agreements and curriculum, but also displaying the position of other authors they have conducted research and writings concerning the exciting topic that is evaluation.
