Abstract

The multi-authored monograph under review is the result of long-term research conducted by a group of authors engaged in the history of the memory of the First World War in the Middle East, Armenia, Australia, and New Zealand. Considerable attention is paid to the historiography of the Great War and the politics of memory in the countries in question. The authors note the strong influence of political situation on holding commemorative events (Medz Yeghern in Armenia, ANZAC Day in Australia and New Zealand, victory in the Battle of Gallipoli in Turkey). Although commemorative events in other states that emerged from the ruins of the Ottoman Empire are not mentioned, the monograph reveals a significant and hitherto little-researched subject of the memory of the First World War outside Europe. Despite the specific nature of its subject, the book can be of interest to everyone who is concerned with the history of the Great War.
