Geometry and construction: mental models and types realized in defence territories

Abstract

Two strong concepts like “geometry” and “architecture” can be enhanced if they are correlated to each other, especially if the link between them is the word “construction”. From the abstract form of the first concept to the tangible physicality of the second one, the distance seems really short.The assume is confirmed both for the traditional representation and the digitally expressions: it constitute the foundament of the architectural formation and production. This is valid for the architectural dimension but also for the urban one. In this context the treatises can be considered as a source not inedit but still with great disciplinary and interdisciplinary implications: a distillate of knoledge coming from multiple cultural matrices. The paper wants to demonstrate that the territory can be read and confirmed in the fortified city, which for centuries has been considered the prevailing urban model.
