In the Archivio Storico del Ministero degli Affari Esteri of Italy there are numerous files, unknown in Mexico and Spain, regarding Spanish refugees who were asylum-seekers in Mexico. This article offers the rapporteur founded by the review, from 1937 to 1941; that is, from the first arrival of the so-called «Morelia’s children» until Mexico’s war declaration to Italy. A key informant was the ambassador of Italy in Mexico, Alberto Marchetti di Muriaglio, who periodically sent to Rome reports on the landings and his opinion on Mexican politics, which covered the final part of the Lázaro Cárdenas government and the initial one of Manuel Ávila. Camacho. Such files reveal a remarkable information network of Italy with Spain and Germany to prevent, when the time comes, the departure of ships with Republican exiles to all America’s continent.
