The article aims to analyze the experiences of democratic management practices in basic education schools, developed by school managers. The methodological approach used in the research was qualitative and in relation to the object of study it was classified as field research. The importance of the role of school management as a mediator was highlighted. The participation of the whole generates autonomy in each subject, providing collective decision-making. These results contribute to encourage the democratization of education for and through democracy through democratic management, as well as to rethink the training of school managers.
