Social media in health care- - Ethically challenging - -Dangerous but attractive- -use with caution
Abstract
We are witnessing the evolution of social media (SM) use in the general population around the world. In healthcare, social media, web, and mobile technologies are increasingly being used. Patients benefit from disease self-management tools, social interaction, and more frequent monitoring. Using these technologies, researchers can study drug efficacy or recruit patients for clinical studies. Low communication barriers in social media, limited privacy, and security concerns cause ethical issues. While the ethical use and regulation of digital-based research have been discussed, little attention has been paid to research ethics governance.
