EXPRESSION OF FEMALE IDENTITY THROUGH VERBAL MANIFESTATION (ON THE BASIS OF THE QUEEN’S GAMBIT BY W. TEVIS)
Abstract
Background. The article discusses the problem of female identity’s formation in the modern context determined by the worldview of postmodernism. The relevance of this study is due to the urgent need for theoretical understanding and practical scrutiny of the linguistic role as means of constructing gender through the verb. Purpose. The study is aimed to ascertain the dynamics of female identity’s formation in literary text through verbal presentation. Materials and methods. The survey is based on: the definitional analysis of gender tendencies, problems of female genius, contextual observation of speech material of the fictional work, as well as linguistic facts interpretation and collation, statistical data manipulation. Results. The hypothesis of potential dynamics of the female identity’s formation in the literary text through the verbal semantic space’s analysis of the novel The Queen’s Gambit by W. Tevis (1900 manifestations) is justified. Practical implications. The research outcome can find the application in systematic scrutiny of the verb/ verbals usage in the textual space as a means of gender aspect implementation.
