Informed concern in aesthetic dental treatments
Abstract
Introduction: The very beginnings of the bioethics sum up themselves in: The patient's autonomy, beneficence and no maleficence, and justice. These premises are applicable to all the circles of science and the cosmetic stomatology; esthetic is not exempt to apply them through the informed consent. Objective: Describe aspects to consider for the elaboration of the informed consent of patients that receive cosmetic and/ or esthetic dental treatment. Methods: A literature revision on the informed consent in cosmetic dental cosmetics treatments was done, including articles from 2004 to the present time. Impact journals related to this topic on the Internet were reviewed. The terms used were: Bioethics, aspects legal, treatment cosmetic dentals, static dental, informed concern. 123 articles were found; but the study was only girded to 29 articles focused this issue more holistically. Integration of information: Several documents support patients regarding their rights. The World Medical Association adopted the Declaration of Helsinki and the Nüremberg Code and they contain all ethical elements in biomedical research. In particular, it states that no one shall be subjected to medical treatment without his/her free consent. Final considerations: Informed consent improves dental practice and protects the candidate to receive beauty treatments and cosmetics. It is applied before any proceeding; it must contain the information sheet and declaration section and signatures, including the aesthetic problem of the individual and its perception, possible solutions, materials, medicines and complications.
