Abstract

O FOCO DESTE texto é o da visão brasileira da diplomacia multilateral nas Nações Unidas, tendo em vista recentes desenvolvimentos, inclusive o renascimento das políticas unilaterais. Concentra-se nos desafios centrais da paz e segurança, cooperação internacional para o desenvolvimento econômico e promoção dos direitos humanos. Examinam-se as questões do Iraque, Sudão e Haiti, assim como a Declaração do Milênio, das Metas de Desenvolvimento do Milênio e a Conferência de Monterrey para o Financiamento do Desenvolvimento. São ainda tratados os temas do Tribunal Penal Internacional e da assistência humanitária. Finalmente, avaliam-se as questões da reforma das Nações Unidas, em particular o Conselho de Segurança.THIS TEXT IS focused on the Brazilian understanding of the multilateral diplomacy at the United Nations, having in mind recent developments, including the rising of the policies of unilateralism. Attention is given to the central challenges of peace and security, international cooperation for development, and promotion of human rights. The items on Iraq, Sudan and Haiti are examined, as well as those on the Millennium Declaration, Millennium Development Goals and the Monterrey Conference on the Financing for development. Attention is given to the items on International Criminal Court, and humanitarian assistance. Finally, the issue of the Reform of the United Nations in particular the Security Council is evaluated.
