Abstract Transcultural lives in social media: Discursive strategies of Norwegian immigrants online Research indicates that the dominant news media shape a picture of minorities and immigration that is problem oriented and overly simple. Social media offer discursive arenas where immigrants may show a greater diversity. In blogs and video-sharing services, immigrants can formulate their own identities and opinions, thus supplementing the established media discourse. The article investigates how and why this happens in the Norwegian media landscape. Through interviews with three informants – all with an immigrant background – as well as analysis of their text and media practices, the article provides a close insight into how social media can serve as public arenas for new voices and new discourses on minorities and immigration.
