Perceptions of nursing professionals from a general hospital about Reiki intervention

Objective: to identify the perceptions of nursing professionals about their participation in an intervention with Reiki. Method: qualitative research involving intervention consisting of six weekly Reiki sessions, conducted between September 2019 and March 2020 with 14 nursing professionals working in a general hospital in northwestern Paraná. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and submitted to thematic content analysis. Results: six nurses and eight nursing technicians participated, who reported a picture of well-being, improvement in sleep pattern and self-esteem, increased tranquility, change of attitudes and reduced symptoms of pain and irritability. Conclusion: the nursing professionals realized that the intervention with Reiki promoted physical and emotional balance, was effective in reducing pain and emotional disorders, brought benefits for themselves in the individual and family spheres, with positive repercussions on work relationships.
