Cattle dairy farming in the municipality of Olivença-AL: the context producers' socioeconomic status / A pecuária leiteira bovina no município de Olivença-AL: o contexto socioeconômico dos produtores

Abstract

The national scene the Alagoas state excels in milk production; it is the second largest employer in rural activity. However, they are still visible remnants of a rural past that still today influence the production and milk productivity. Lira (2008) emphasizes that the roots of power and domination are deep and grounded in “coronelismo”, so the mode of production, labor relations and social does not change and therefore today have the same serious problems that existed in the last century. The objective of this study highlight the socioeconomic context of milk products cattle in the municipality of Olivença-AL noting the potential and the main difficulties for dairy production in the municipality. Thus, the patriarchal past and low levels of education, not only the city but the state of Alagoas, are aspects that should be considered and studied towards the prospect of economic alternatives, which run through by social strategies, especially in the educational field.
