Socio-economic Analysis of the wild edible mushrooms' sector of the miombo woodland of Rumonge (South- west of Burundi) The aim of this study was to analyse the steps of the edible mushrooms' chain from harvest to trade. The methodology consisted in conducting surveys, using questionnaires, on the practices of harvest, consumption and trade in households, from the woodland to the local markets of Rumonge and the markets of Bujumbura. This study showed the characteristics of harvesters and sellers and underlined the mushrooms' importance within the households. The different species used in the diet of the households and those used for trade have been identified. The profit margins generated by the various players of the mushroom trade circuit have been calculated. Strengths and weaknesses, opportunities and threats of the mushrooms' chain in Rumonge were also highlighted.
