This research was aimed to reveal the relationship between metacognitive skill and retention in reciprocal teaching-jigsaw strategy.Metacognitive skill acted as predictor and retention as dependent variable. The learning process was held during one semester and applied reciprocal teaching strategy combined with jigsaw. The subject of this research was 32 first years students in 7th state senior high school of Malang. Instruments used in this research was essay test with metacognitive rubric to measure metacognitive skill and essay test given in three weeks after the end of learning process to measure student?óÔé¼Ôäós retention. The research showed that metacognitive skill had a positive correlation with retention. Thus it could be said that metacognitive skill is needed to improve student?óÔé¼Ôäós retention.
