Background. It is noted that the process of settling of particles leads to different results of measuring the turbidity of water. The process of settling of particles creates methodological uncertainty in the interpretation of measurement results. Materials and methods. Two methods of measuring the turbidity of water are proposed, in which this uncertainty is partially eliminated. In the first method, called the differential method, it is recommended that measurements be carried out on a fixed short time interval. The relative error of the differential method is estimated in comparison with the result obtained by the basic formula, without taking into account the settling of particles. It is shown that this error decreases with increasing settling time. The relative error of the second proposed integral turbidity measurement method is also investigated, the essence of which is to carry out an integral turbidity measurement for the entire period of particle settling and further averaging during the measurements. Results and conclusions. It is shown that the error of the average integral measurements decreases with an increase in the regression index. The procedure for verifying the reliability of the obtained results of the assessment of the corresponding errors is determined.
