Idiopathic eruptive macular pigmentation: a case series
Abstract
Idiopathic eruptive macular pigmentation (IEMP) is a rare disorder of pigmentation presenting with asymptomatic hyperpigmentation mainly in children and adolescents over face, neck, trunk, and extremities. Epidermal basal-cell pigmentation is observed on histopathology. It usually resolves spontaneously over months to years. Lichen planus pigmentosus and erythema dyschromicum perstans should be differentiated from IEMP. We report four cases of IEMP fulfilling the criteria proposed by Sanz de Galdeano et al. in 1996.
