Human Breast Anatomy
Abstract
Abstract Given the very high incidence of breast pathology and the costs—both human and financial—that are incurred as a result of breast abnormalities, a complete, accurate, and cogent stand-alone presentation is a necessary tool that can be of great use to many health science students and instructors. This resource is a short, image-intensive, PowerPoint demonstration of the gross and pathologic anatomy of the breast. It is intended primarily for undergraduate and graduate medical school students and residents who are preparing for or reviewing the clinical anatomy of the breast. The resource may be used in the lecture hall as a primary or ancillary presentation, in small groups with a facilitator, or for individual review. Users/students with a basic understanding of the superficial anatomy of the thorax and breast region will benefit the most from this program. The presentation is currently being deployed at our medical and dental colleges as an ancillary resource during the thorax unit in our integrated anatomy curricula. Although quantitative evaluation of the presentation's effectiveness is ongoing, it has been embraced as a desirable resource by our students.
