The patient was in anti-tuberculosis therapy, because a question of ongoing “sensitive” tuberculosis. The authors comment some aspects of the clinical management of the patient. Exogenous reinfection with a multidrug-resistant strain was convincelly demonstrated with DNA fingerprinting. The relevance of DNA fingerprinting in the diagnosis and epidemiology of multidrug-resistant tuberculosis is emphasized and the reformulation of the anti-tuberculosis programme in the prisional setting is warranted, in the face of ongoing transmissionREV PORT PNEUMOL 1998; IV (3): 319-325 Palavras-chave: Tuberculose multirresistente, RFLP, Key-words: Multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB), RELP
