The purpose of the research is to comprehensively study and and detailed analysis the array of view postcards of the first third of the 20th century, which represent the urban planning, architectural, landscape, and social environment of Ukrainian settlements, as auxiliary documentary sources for historical, local history, and cultural studies. This documentary layer is a part of the unique thematic collection of postcards of the V. I. Vernadskyi National Library of Ukraine, which began to be formed in the 1920s and is currently one of the largest in Ukraine in terms of volume. The research methodology is based on the use of a set of methods of visual, comparative historical, chronological, and information analysis. The scientific novelty and relevance of the research topic is the expansion of information about the collection of species postcards from the V. I. Vernadskyi National Library of Ukraine funds and the introduction of this type of sheet documents of 1918-1939 into scientific circulation as insufficiently studied iconographic sources. Conclusions state that view postcards are significant iconographic documents of knowledge of the past, sources of the history of postal, publishing, and photographic art. The possibility of using this group of publications in a comprehensive study of the architectural and monumental heritage of certain regions of Ukraine is emphasized.
