The woman’s characters in the modern city sculpture of Ukraine
Abstract
The publication highlights the individual transformation processes, on the example of the analysis of female images embodied in urban sculpture, occurring in modern Ukrainian sculpture. In particular, it is indicated that the female characters embodied in the urban sculpture of the last twenty years reflect two directions of its functioning: the first concerns traditional historical, memorial and educational functions, the second (updated) refers to the entertaining and hedonistic purpose. The theme of female images is common to different generations and different times. The dominance of female images in the modern visual space is obvious, often they become a kind of symbol of time. The creative achievements of Ukrainian artists who are interested in the essence of the feminine in Ukrainian culture retain their national identity and identity. Mainly, in the modern context, the traditional image of the Mother Woman remains, which embodies various religious and memorial meanings. Sculpture compositions that perpetuate historical and cultural figures are also traditional; In addition, in the spaces of Ukrainian cities, sculptural compositions appear, dedicated to the personalities of the media sphere: outstanding actresses, characters of cinema and literature, as well as humorous characters. It was determined that one of the significant problems of the art of sculpture in Ukraine at the end of the twentieth century was the fact that most works of the Soviet and post-Soviet times continue to present obsolete historical stereotypes and myths. Since the 1990s, when the process of restoring the historical memory of a nation, its self-consciousness, intensified; the processes of globalization and commercialization of society, the massification of public consciousness were outlined, the sculpture is undergoing gradual renewal.
