In their poetic representations of the Creation inspired by Genesis, seventeenth-century Italian writers drew, particularly, on Torquato Tasso. Huguenot Guillaume de Saluste du Bartas’" La Sepmaine ou creation du monde" (1578) was similarly important, thanks to Ferrante Guisone’s 1593 translation. This essay offers an analysis of how such authors as Gasparo Murtola, Felice Passero, Giuseppe Girolamo Semenzi and Benedetto Menzini, up to the Italian version of du Bartas’ "Seconde Semaine", drew inspiration from this alternative model.
