Determination of the poultry animal genetic resources of the northeastern area of the province of Ocaña
Abstract
Colombia is a privileged country for its natural riches and for the diversity of its ecosystems, which has allowed the presence of a large number of native species, among which is the Creole hen "Gallus gallus domesticus", presenting a high variety of phenotypes, identifying 12 subtypes throughout the country. The objective of the research was to determine the racial types of Creole hen present in the northeastern area of the province of Ocaña, Norte de Santander, using a descriptive methodology; The information was collected in a survey format composed of quantitative (zoometric) and qualitative variables, registering the phenotypic appearance of the birds through a photographic record. To group the individuals, a multivariate analysis was used, using the multiple correspondence methodology, in the statistical program STATGRAPHICS Centurión XV Version 15.2.06, which allows gathering individuals with similar characteristics in homogeneous groups. Concluding that in the northeastern area of the Province of Ocaña there are ten of the twelve subtypes, established in the country. Dark colors such as black, black-red and gray predominate, normal plumage, simple crests, red chin and ears, tarsi, beaks and yellow skin, observing an important difference in the development of sexual dimorphism favoring the male, showing heavy animals, with large limbs.
