«Encouraging to a valiant battle»: methods of influence on the armed forces of the Byzantine Empire at early Palaeologian period

Abstract

The paper is devoted to identifying the specifics of internal organizational methods used in the Byzantine army during the reign of the Palaeologus. Based on the results of the study we determined the specificity of methods of moral, religious and material influence on the morale of military at various levels of the hierarchy of the Byzantine armed forces.
