The chronology of Castelo de Castro Marim. An Iron Age settlement

Abstract

The Iron Age diachrony of Castro Marim occupation has been established with the stratigraphic sequence and the materials recovered in the different levels. Based on these data we have already presented chronological proposals for the four phases, which we could also characterize in relation with architectural plans and with the archaeological materials. The collection of organic material at all levels of the stratigraphic sequence allowed us to obtain absolute dates, carried out on shells and charcoals. In this work, the data from the radiocarbon chronology are presented and discussed by themselves and related with the others. The relationship between the 14C dates and those obtained by morphological analysis of the materials collected along the stratigraphic sequence bring more solid bases to analyze the diachronic evolution of Castro Marim Iron Age.
