Increasingly, States are fighting against the disappearance and overexploitation of natural resources. Interest in the Haitian subsoil was raised in 2013 by the Haitian Parliament to the point of inviting the State to strengthen its negotiating capacities and to find out the real estimate of its minerals. However, it has happened that, since 2018, armed groups operating in the West department have positioned themselves in places where the potential existence of natural resources (since 1899) and deposits (since 1937) have been prospected. Are these territorial strategies implemented by actors? What meanings are attributed to the locations of armed groups in terms of territorial strategies in relation to potential resources? By using old cartography and documents available on the subject, we interpret the results of a superposition of maps to render the placement of groups in strategic territories.
