Veli Ibraimov (1888–1928): strokes to the portrait

Veli Ibraimov was born in Bakhchisarai in 1888. After finishing school, at the age of twelve, he began his labor activity. The important stage in development of his public and political activities has become his work in “Terdzhiman” publishing house. He became known with Asan Sabri Ayvazov, Noman Chelebidzhihan, Jafer Seydamet, Amet Ozenbashli. Great influence on him was made by Abdurashid Mediev, who at that time was the Head of Karasubazar and at the same time was a Deputy to the State Duma I. Veli Ibraimov also for some period worked for the newspaper “Vetan Hadimi” (The Employee of the Fatherland), the editor of which was A. Mediev. Very strong influence on political opinions of Veli Ibraimov was made by revolution of 1905–1907, and not less important for him was the Mladoturks revolution in1908. In the Ottoman Empire Veli Ibraimov lived since 1909–1912, right at the time of revolutionary events directed by “Unification and Progress” party. By the beginning of World War I, Veli Ibraimov came back to the Crimea. He lived in Simferopol, becoming the Head of the Crimean Tatar Trade Union. Veli Ibraimov took an active part in revolution of 1917 on the peninsula. He was the delegate of the first Kurultai in 1917, and also a party member of the ‘Milliy Firka”.His left-hand political position brought Veli Ibraimov to RCP (b) in 1918. He took part in the events of the Civil War I. At this period he was in the Caucasus front. In 1920, since establishment of the Soviet Power in the Crimea, he comes back to the peninsula. He took an active part in formation of Soviet Power`s management bodies. He was elected in the first structure of CPK of the Crimean SSR, from November 1921 was the head of People`s Commissar of Workers and Peasants Inspection. In November of 1922, Veli Ibraimov was elected the head of the Extraordinary Three Group which struggled with bandits. In August 1924 Veli Ibrraimov took the highest post in the Crimean ASSR–the Chairman of CEC (Central Elections Committee).He was the head of this post up to February of 1928, till the days when he was arrested and put into prison. The court on Veli Ibraimov was held in Simferopol on April 23–28, 1928. In this process were involved 17 more persons. Veli Ibraimov was accused in murdering of E. Cholak and embezzlement. He was sentenced to death penalty.
