Faced with the catastrophe in which Paul Celan (1920 – 1970) was exposed, the First World War (1914 – 1918), a boost for his literary production arose. Added to this, from the notion of exposure to shock and the contributions of Charles Baudelaire (1821 – 1867), I have an insight responsible for the proposition of Baudelaire's drunkenness as a response to traumatic events, being a consequence of the experiences suffered. Thus, I highlight the issues present in the movement of the poets as motives for reading the novels Cinzas do Norte (2005) and A Noite da Espera(2017). Throughout the development of the study, I realize that this possibility of responding to the so-called limits events can arise beyond the molds dictated by the catastrophic condition: such as silencing and erasure.
