THE LIBERAL PARTY OF PERNAMBUCO AND THE ABOLITIONIST QUESTION, 1880-88.
Abstract
This study examines how the Liberal Party of Pernambuco faced the abolitionist issue during the last decade of the Empire. It shows that liberals were more sensitive to their own political needs than to the interests of the landed classes of the province.
