In modern society, traditional norms of human existence are ineffective and sometimes are not used by people in the process of their social existence. The question arises about the normativity of a person’s personal existence. In addition, traditional social methods and models of identification are ineffective, and it is necessary to identify other, modern ways to achieve identity. It is relevant to study the problem of identity and identification from the position of normativity, and not from the position of the presence of the person’s properties that determine its self. The scientific novelty of the work consists in the study of the problem of personal identification through the prism of normativity in the framework of a narrative approach. It is argued that personal identification consists of a set of ascriptive and descriptive norms. The authors show that representatives of the narrative approach exclude ascriptive norms of their personal identity, which leads to negative individual and social consequences. The authors are interested in finding the ideal ratio of ascriptive and descriptive norms in personal identification. The purpose of the research is to determine a way to solve the problem of the ratio of ascriptive and descriptive norms in personal identification by representatives of the narrative approach, to identify the advantages and disadvantages of such a solution. The article considers the main concepts: personality, identity, identification, norm, ascriptive and descriptive norms, narrative, the essence of the narrative approach to identification and social normativity. The results obtained showed that the personal identification of a person in the understanding of representatives of the narrative approach contains exclusively descriptive norms, which allows the individual to achieve self-realization in the most comfortable forms for it, but does not allow solving the problems of its social existence and co-existence with other social subjects. On this basis, the narrative approach to identifying normativity has more disadvantages than advantages.
