Sand extinguishment is mainly used in chemically active metals, oils and places where water can not be used for extinguishment. The traditional sand fire fighting is mainly carried out by manual handling. In order to improve the efficiency of sand fire extinguishment, a sand throwing equipment was developed. Based on the sand-throwing equipment combined with EDEM full-size simulation, this paper explores the principle of its longitudinal extinguishing of small-size wood crib fire. HD cаmera was used to record the whole process of fire extinguishment and the sand coverage at the end of fire-fighting, infrared thermal imager and CAD software were used to observe the change of flame height during fire extinguishment, and armored K-type thermocouple were used to monitor the temperature change of wood crib. Based on the energy conservation of the control volume, the mechanism of sand-throwing equipment for extinguishing wood crib was analyzed.
