Comparison of Different CAD Software on User Experience and Satisfaction
Abstract
Aim or Purpose: This study aims to compare the effect of open-source, professional, and artificial intelligence-assisted dental CAD software performance on user experience and satisfaction among dental practitioners and dental students with different levels of expertise in single crown design. Materials and Methods: The study employed a quantitative research approach involving a survey and interviews with dental practitioners who have different levels of expertise in single crown design. Participants (N =100) were divided into novice (undergraduate dental students, n = 40), and professional (dental technicians, and prosthodontic residents, n = 60) groups. The survey consisted of two parts – Participant Information and Software Procedure regarding the user experience and satisfaction of each of the three types of software, including open-source, professional, and artificial intelligence-assisted (AI) automated dental CAD software. Results: The results of the study indicate that the level of expertise in single crown design significantly affects user experience and satisfaction with dental CAD software (P < 0.5). The professional group prefers to use the step-guided professional CAD software program, whereas the novice prefers the automated CAD software program. In comparison between software performance, the AI automated CAD software provides the best user experience and satisfaction for all levels of expertise, followed by professional software, and open-source software. Conclusions: User experience and satisfaction with dental CAD software were significantly affected by their expertise level and that the AI automated CAD software provides the best user experience and satisfaction for dental practitioners with different levels of expertise in single crown design.
