Vietnamese migrants in Russian regions: estimate of the migration potential

Abstract

Russian-Vietnamese relations in the post-Soviet period had significant changes both under the influence of a complex of factors within Russia and Vietnam, and under the influence of globalization of the world labor market and the restructuring of the architecture of international relations in the 21st century. These reasons led to a twofold reduction in the number of Vietnamese migrants permanently residing in Russia, as well as on the flows of temporary labor migrants from Vietnam. However, we believe that the potential of Vietnamese migration to Russia remains quite high. A promising area of cooperation between Russia and Vietnam in the field of migration may be a channel of educational migration. The growth of labor migration can be ensured through the implementation of projects financed by the Vietnamese business in Russia.
