Aliamidi e duloxetina nel trattamento del low back pain - Aliamides and duloxetina in the treatment of low back pain
Abstract
Low back pain is very prevalent in today’s society, and significantly impacts on the individual’s social life and daily living activities increasing health care costs to society. Two patients suffering from low back pain due to different etiologies were treated with a combination of the aliamides ultramicronized palmitoylethanolamide (PEA‑um) and adelmidrol, orally and topically administered, respectively, for 60 days, in association with low dose of duloxetine (30 mg/day). Pain intensity was measured by the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS); mood was evaluated by a non‑parametric scale for depression and functional impairment was quantified by a semantic 5‑level scale. Evaluation was carried out at the 20th, 40th and 60th day of treatment. There was a significant reduction in pain intensity, as well as a considerable attenuation of depressed mood in both patients. Moreover, functional impotence, when present, totally disappeared. In these case reports it has been observed the efficacy of a combination therapy based on the use of Aliamides and duloxetine for chronic pain control; moreover, this treatment was well-tolerated in both patients.
