Abstract

The Austrian author Marlene Streeruwitz assembles three different kinds of texts into a collage. The first level presents the text of a speech Streeruwitz gave in Berlin about the war in Kosovo wherein she argues that talk about war is closely associated with a disposition to wage war, an inherent element in patriarchal society. On a second level Streeruwitz incorporates inputs from the discussion in Berlin as well as her reflections on this material, expressing her irritation about how in 1999 military interventions can be justified. The third level consists of official Nato material about the Kosovo crisis taken from inter- net pages such as visual materials, official announcements and press releases.
