The mental calculation consists of different strategies that aim to obtain results through simpler methods of resolution, with the aid of the written calculation. One of the possibilities to develop it is the use of mathematical games, as they provide observation, individual and collective work. In this article, we seek to investigate how students in the final years of elementary school use mental calculus when working with mathematical games. To this end, a survey was conducted with a group of 16 students from a state school located in the municipality of Castelo,Espírito Santo. We theoretically ground in Parra (1996), Carvalho (2011), Lorenzato (2012), Kishimoto (2017) among others. The activities carried out made it possible to conclude that during the application of the games, the students were more committed to performing the tasks. We identified the use of the multiplication addition algorithms as the main mental calculation strategies.
