This paper presents an overview of some relevant concepts on higher education, going through UNESCO’s and including those by some theorists who have had an influence in shaping labor and financial structures all over the globe in the last few years. The paper concludes that poor social and political training athigher education institutions favors the chances of dominant groups to continue in power without their forms of government and the way they manage economy being contested by people. Therefore, the paper suggests some changes in curricular structures at higher education institutions, so they are able to be educated not only for a labor market, but also to participate as real citizens in society.
