Production lines must be flexible in order to fulfill organizational goals, but they need to be aligned with the demands of production and the level of service. The objective of this research is to analyze the trade-offs in the decision taken regarding the volumes to be produced and the need to meet the production demand established by the company, without disruption to operations. The primary data source was a company in the paint sector. The methodology used was based on a qualitative case-study approach, through interviews with the company’s logistics and operations managers, providing a more comprehensive understanding of the problems. The results of the field survey showed that the company needs to anticipate their purchases of imported raw materials and plan their production in advance, avoiding decisions on which product to produce first, generating stock that supports demand.
