Déconstruire la cartographie des relations sino-africaines : le cas des ports

Abstract

This article offers a critical view of university cartographic productions regarding the roles of the Chinese in African ports. For this purpose, a cartographic counter-representation of these forms of Chinese presence is generated in order first to take into account the methods of Chinese intervention, before deconstructing the related cartography, and finally reversing representations and Afro-Chinese port cartography. The results of the survey show a multimodal Chinese presence in Africa which can be described as fragmented, with 55 ports and 12 dry ports financed, built, and/or managed by Chinese subsidiaries, but also 149 which are not.
