New Inscriptions from Nicaea II
Abstract
The article presents 15 new funerary inscriptions found in the vicinity of the vilayets Geyve and Tarakli (province of Sakarya) during a survey conducted in 2010 and 2011, respectively. All inscriptions stem from this area, which in Roman imperial times formed part of the eastern territory of Nicaea. The new texts include numerous anthroponyms, which underscores the region's cultural richness. The new name Ozobris (no. 8) is probably of Thracian origin. The funerary monument (no. 7) was erected for a man and his wife; both of them worked as “oikonomos”, an occupation variously attested in this region.
