Conception and educational practice of Pedro Cañas Abril

Pedro Cañas Abril (1902-1992) is a personality of science and education in Cuba whose conception and educational work is little known. However, during the period of the bourgeois neocolonial republic, Cañas Abril served as professor and director of the Institute of Secondary Education of Santiago de Cuba, from where he promoted the reform of the baccalaureate studies in our country. Was one of the founders and pedagogical pillar of the University of the East, where he developed an outstanding educational work. From 1959, he contributed valuable ideas and experiences to the integral reform of education, mainly, university. In this work his ideas are exposed, mainly, about the formation of the university professional and educational activity in the period of the bourgeois neocolonial republic, which favors the knowledge of his outstanding trajectory as educator.
