<i>Let vibrate</i>: Um breve panorama sobre o vibrafone na música do século XX

Abstract

This article surveys the origins and development of the vibraphone and its repertory in twentieth century concert music. After tracing briefly the history of the instrument itself, I will consider how the works of some composers were not only crucial in broadening the vibraphone's repertoire, but were also helpful in fostering new aesthetic thoughts in musical composition. The present article also aims at expanding the scarce bibliography on the vibraphone in Portuguese language.
