As part of a broader approach to the issue of transcription and editing of oral tales, this article compares the transcription of an Acadian tale from the oral tradition to its edited version, highlighting the changes that appear in this passage from oral to written. If the editor’s choice is to remain very close to the language of the storyteller (for example, keeping a number of regional linguistics features), interesting cases appear in terms of the processing of phenomena related to text organization, such as the representation of the other’s speech, anaphora, oral syntax. This kind of study may contribute to the analysis of the oral tale as a separate genre, a hybrid one, similar to both oral discourse and narrative.
