Study of a double permanent magnet and electromagnet hybrid Halbach array electrodynamic suspension
Abstract
In order to reduce the drag force at low speed and control the levitation force of the permanent magnet (PM) electrodynamic suspension (EDS) system, this paper proposes a double PM and electromagnet hybrid Halbach array EDS system, which uses the double structure to reduce the drag force at low speed and controls the levitation force through the coil current. The formula of the electromagnetic force is derived by using maxwell equations and maxwell stress tensor method. And the accuracy of the derived electromagnetic force is validated via a 2D finite-element model (FEM). Furthermore, the effects of the coil width and current on the levitation force are analyzed and the suspension performance is compared between the single and the double PM and electromagnet hybrid Halbach array EDS system.
