Circulation et usages de l’exégèse dans la péninsule Ibérique au ixe siècle

Abstract

The Indiculus of Adventu Enoch and Eliae is an anonymous treatise written in the Iberian Peninsula between the end of the eighth-century and the end of the ninth-century. Centered on the Antichrist, it is an original production based on several commentaries of the Apocalypse and Daniel. The treatise shows an effort of compilation and selection among different traditions. Thanks to the search tools provided by electronic databases and recent publications of critical editions, it is now possible to progress in the identification of the texts used by the anonymous author. The results of this survey shed light on the circulation and use of exegesis in the Peninsula more than a century after the Islamic conquest. In particular, the treatise offers interesting directions for studying the circulation of Beatus of Liebana’s Commentary on the Apocalypse, composed at the end of the eighth-century, of which several states of the text have survived and are available to us.
