In the 40s of the last century there was a conflict between two factions of the Falange y de las JONS in China. This conflict escalated to such a point that the faction that was in inferiority kidnapped the Spanish consul in Shanghai. This attack forced the authorities in Madrid to intervene to prevent the Japanese officers from acting and thus putting Franco's Spain in a diplomatic compromise with the Allies. These Falangists were also mostly players from the Basque pelota frontons that had been inaugurated with great success more than a decade earlier in the cities of Shanghai and Tianjin. Their condition as pelotaris and their conditions were the main reasons for the conflict.
