This study analyzes the nursing situation today, its roots and where do philosophy and methodology approaches address to. We perform a comparative revision between the literature on present humanist sciences and on nursing and our conclusion is that nursing no longer emphasizes the technical aspects of natural science or biomedical science but rather focuses on the holistic aspect. This is what makes nursing an independent discipline and grants us a different viewpoint, at a more social and human level. Starting from the assumption that present nursing more than an artistic practice is a scientific one, we consider three different aspects: In the first one, the fundamental science of nursing is considered. In the second section, the needs for better methods in providing nursing care are taken into consideration. In the third instance, since the professional role is based upon the consideration that health is subject to the patient's own and subjective feelings, a humanist dimension is developed.
